Concord view: No thermal energy. Hard to measure whether remember from 6 to 7.
Connect to standards about investigation and experimentation.
Have energy as the topic for experimentation. Focus on evolution, food webs, rock cycle??
Add food web/digestion. Experimentation. How can it help the kids understand the material.
Possible focus is evolution and genetic diversity—connect to factors that lead to extinction.

ASSESSMENT
NOTE: we may need to pilot sooner for first semester students??
-Jan - Feb: develop an assessment blueprint (framework) and review existing items
-Mar: select items from existing assessment, design new items, and construct tests for 6, 7, 8th grade students (6-earth science, 7-life science, and 8-physical science)
-March/April: obtain feedback on assessment and revise assessment
-April/May: administer online energy assessment to 6, 7, 8 th grade students in target schools.
-Summer: develop scoring rubrics, score items, and create a database
